Samsung has announced the Galaxy Ace Style smartphone to take on the mid-range offerings from other brands. The key attraction in the smartphone is that it comes with Android 4.4 KitKat out-of-the-box, which is rare on the smartphones in mid-range segment.
Specifications-wise, the Galaxy Ace Style comes with a 4-inch WVGA TFT display with 800×480 pixels resolution. It is powered by a 1.2GHz dual-core chipset with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage, which can be expanded by up to 64GB using a microSD card.
On the photography front, the phone sports a 5-megapixel rear camera with auto-focus, and a VGA front-facing camera, and comes with additional camera features like One Camera Preview for both video recording and picture taking in full HD.
Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and NFC, though there is no information on the number of SIMs and network support on the phone. It is quite possible for Samsung to launch a dual-SIM version in select markets like India.
The Samsung Galaxy Ace Style will be available in cream white and dark gray colors, and will be launched in this month itself. However, the company has not yet revealed the price of the phone.
The Galaxy Ace Style will be up against the likes of Sony’s Xperia M which comes with a 4-inch FWVGA (854×480 pixels) TFT display, a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor, 4GB of internal storage, a 5-megapixel rear camera and a VGA front-facing camera. It has 1GB of RAM, which is double the RAM size on the Galaxy Ace Style, however has a lower external memory on microSD card (up to 32GB). In terms of software, Samsung’s phone runs on Android’s latest version, the 4.4 KitKat, while the Xperia M runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean. The Xperia M is available for slightly less than Rs 12,000 at most online retail stores.
